So given how awfully cold it has been here in Illinois and my new little corner of Lake in the Hills, I thought I would write a post just letting everyone know about the immense work it takes to keep these dog grooming vans going during these winters.

Our mobile dog grooming vans are kept outside in the driveway. We’re a mom and pop operation and after we pay for expenses and make sure we pay our groomers a live-able wage, there’s not much money left at the end of the month so we cannot afford to have some large garage to put them in to keep them warm, we don’t mind and it isn’t a big deal most of the time, but when it is super cold like it has been, it does cause some problems.

In this cold, the fresh water hoses freeze in the time it takes us to bring them from inside a warm house and hook them up. We use heat guns and blow dryers to allow us to turn the water on from the house, to clear ice that builds up in the fresh water inlet pipe. Some evenings it will be 8 or 9pm and we will be outside in sub zero temperatures trying to unfreeze the grey water tank valve so we can empty our dirty water for the day. Me and my husband often get up extra early to clear off snow, salt any ice build up, chip ice off of the windshields , start the vans and warm them up or sometimes to keep trying to get the vans filled after we weren’t able to the night before. The extension cords that we bring outside so we can plug in the heat gun to melt ice will freeze into position prohibiting us from coiling them back up properly, we have to drag them inside to warm them up. This takes place about every morning and night.

We made sure we paid extra to get the top of the line grooming vans for the convenience and comfort of everyone- so I am glad we have furnaces on the vans to keep the insides warm. Depending on how cold it is, we will use up 30 gallons of propane in a matter of a few days trying to keep the vans warm enough during the night. Sometimes they run out of propane in the middle of the night and we wake up to a frozen van. Water pipes freeze in no-time when it is this cold.

Many of you know Tori, well she got a flat in one of the vans yesterday, so my husband went to the appointment she was at and changed the tire out in 4 degree weather so she could continue with her day.

These groomers get here early to help make sure the vans are ready to go, they stay late with us trying to get vans filled in this frigid cold and they show real dedication to us, to you and to their craft, so be sure to thank them when you see them next.

Given the number of problems this sort of weather causes, I am very grateful and proud that we have had as little hiccups as possible in our scheduling of our clients. You all have come to rightfully expect prompt service and that’s what we try for every single day. To those of you we have had to rescheule at all this winter, I want to say thank you for the good grace and understanding you have shown. Having to reschedule appointments certainly isn’t the norm and we have no reason to expect you will have interruptions with your service – I just wanted to share with you all amount of effort that goes into being the greatest mobile groomers in Illinois.

Good news! Wet Noses Mobile Dog Grooming is now offering dog grooming in Lake in the Hills! You’ll probably be seeing our grooming vans cruising around in no time! I have actually moved to Lake in the Hills so we now have vans stationed out towards Schaumburg and in lake in the hills / crystal lake area. This means more timely grooming appointment offerings, less drive time for our groomers and a happier you!

So far, I have been loving it out here, the people and the landscape are great and getting away from the hustle and bustle a little bit has been a great treat (besides Randall Rd amirite??).

While we are writing this blog post this afternoon, we may as well provide an update about our dog grooming company. 2017 was a great year for Wet Noses and we are really looking forward to a great 2018 and will keep looking ahead. Thanks to our terrific groomers and our amazing clients who are happy to tell others about their great experience we continue to be recognized for the great service that we provide. I can’t repeat how thankful we are.

The girls put in so much work every day, both with your dogs and behind the scenes. Especially with this weather, keeping grooming vans warm, unfrozen and properly operational is a lot of work, a lot of cold and takes dedication. These groomers get to the vans early, make sure they’re stocked and check to make sure everything is A-OK before they get on their way. We want to give them the recognition they deserve and be sure to give an extra thank you when you see them next

As you may have seen on Facebook  we just made live our first video highlighting a day in the life of Wet Noses Mobile Dog Grooming! Expect to see many more of these in the future as we’re absolutely loving creating videos and unique content for our clients.

What we’re really trying to accomplish is to put our skills, drive, equipment and devotion into your living room or at your fingertips. If you haven’t looked before, there isn’t a whole lot of quality video content in the dog grooming or mobile dog grooming realm. Even if you search for books online they all look like they’re straight out of 1980 and you’d have no idea the publishing date was 2016.

These videos were shot in 1080p 60fps using GoPro Hero 3+ black and Hero 5s and edited using a combination of GoPro Studio and Davinci Resolve.

Earlier this summer, we here at Wet Noses Mobile Dog Grooming were pleasantly surprised to receive an email from none other than the Chicago Wolves hockey team! They had inquired as to whether or not we would be interested in bringing our mobile dog grooming expertise to the table to help some dogs in need.

Of course we said YES!

Turns out that the Chicago Wolves has been working closely with the Animal Welfare League in Glenview IL website here – and wanted us to lend a hand doing some grooming for dogs in need of adoption and who were going to be at the Allstate Arena for the Adopt-a-Dog drive that the Chicago Wolves host (read more about it here)

We’ve agreed to groom the dogs on the day of the drive which is held once per month throughout the Wolves’ season and couldn’t be happier that we were asked to help out!

Whether it is providing dog grooming fundraising for the Animal House Foundation, donating our efforts to local events and now with the Wolves & the Animal Welfare League, we’re so happy that we have the reputation, the time and extra resources to be able to help dogs in need. 2017 has been quite the busy year for us but it is times like this, when we look back at the good we’ve done that makes it all worth it.

Much more will be written on this as our partnership continues, we’ll have the Wolves video crew on-site a day or two for us, we’ll be producing videos and you MIGHT even see us on the news!

Well it went great! As many of you already know we had extended hours and days of the week to try and groom as many of your dogs as possible so they’d be ready for your holiday celebrations. We received so many “thank you’s” and so many compliments over the December month that, come December 25th, we really were feeling lucky. Additionally, it was heartwarming to see so many clients declining our extended hour options and turning down appointments later at night because they wanted to make sure our family was together for the Christmas week.

Lucky for us, the month of December was a mild one. Seeing as we are a mobile dog groomer, driving conditions and safety have to be considered with the utmost of importance.

We thought we’d share with you all the plans and aspirations of your dog groomers for the 2016 year.

1. We’re looking into a loyalty program! How cool would it be to offer points every time your dog is groomed and those points end up adding up to free grooms!? We’re sure that there are others offering this, but as far as we know, we’d be the only dog groomers in the area with a program like that. Another way we’re doing our best at innovating!
2. A New Grooming Van?? We might be adding a new van to the fleet! Who would have thought that 6 months after opening, there would be such a demand for the Wet Noses way of mobile grooming that we’d need another van!
3. New Groomer(s) – As our business grows, we will obviously require additional dog groomers. Don’t worry though, Jessica will still be grooming, but handling all the clients we already have is a lot of work, not to mention all of the additional ones we add through the 2016 year.
4. More Charity Work – We love charity and helping out others. Once the dust of a new company (and new baby.. well 1.5 yr old) settles some more and we add some extra staff, Jessica and I will be looking to use our free time to do all manner of charity work. We’d really like to focus on dog and children related ones since those are near to our hearts, if you have any ideas, we’d love to hear them!

Well those are the big 4 we’re focusing on for the time being at least. I’m sure that list will grow exponentially as the weeks chug along. We look forward to seeing you and grooming your dogs in the new year!
